Federal Government Increases SSCE Fees to 82%
The Federal Government of Nigeria has finally approved and declared 82% increment (#50,000) in the registration fees of West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council of Nigeria (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
The increment does not affect the current 2026 WAEC and NECO SSCE Examination.
The previous WAEC registration fee was between #25,000 to #27,000 while NECO charges #30,000.
Reason For WAEC and NECO SSCE Increment
Federal Government reviewed the formal request of the Examination bodies due to high operational costs and funding resources.
The minister of Education directed the councils to normalize their costs to #50,000 per student.

1. Economic Impact
Parents, guardians and educational authorities showed their concern and worry over the 82% increment regarding to economic hardship in Nigeria and can increase the numbers of the school drop out children.
2. Political Impact
Many Political leaders including former vice president of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar criticized Examination councils on the increment stating the facts of economic crisis and high inflation.
3. State Budget Strains
Some Public school students' SSCE fees are currently sponsored by some state government which may lead to high state budget and expenses.
